AUTOMATE ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

Our full-time, sole accountant of twenty plus years, was being reduced to a part-time position.  To assist with this transition, Nadine Harris was contracted to document our accounting processes and evaluate  our needs.  She recommended to the PGCEA leadership and Board to automate accounts payable and report unclaimed checks in accordance with unclaimed property rules.  Nadine implemented Bill.com to manage our bill pay complexities.  With the implementation of these recommendations and others, we successfully reduced this role to a part-time accounting position.  In addition, it improved transparency and collaboration with the use of this cloud-based tool.

Shortly thereafter, the accountant retired.  Nadine was hired as our full-time accountant to maintain operations, complete audit, implement process improvements and other tasks, such as transitioning volunteers from checks to electronic payments. This change resulted in a significant decrease in checks not being cashed.   She continued to make recommendations to foster consistent treatment of transactions.  PGCEA leadership is very grateful for accounting and consulting services provided by Nadine Harris.   Our internal controls were  strengthened, ten plus years of unclaimed checks were reported to the State and several other achievements.  At the end of the project, Nadine transitioned tasks to our outsourced accountants.
